Songs of the Soul, Swami Yogananda. Yogoda and Sat-Sanga, Los Angeles. 5th edition, Revised and Enlarged, 1926. Copyright 1925. No dustjacket. Good cover with gilt lettering on orange cloth cover. Heavy wear at the top of the tanned spine, less wear at the bottom. Faint discoloration of the front and back boards. Slight wear at the board corners. Tanned page edges. The interior is good, with a former owner’s name and address on the pasted front end paper, with stains on the opposite free end paper. The pages have no markings and are tanned along the outer edges. Some of the pages show part or all of a watermark, American Eggshell, which can be seen if you backlight a page. Unfortunately, the printer made a serious printing error in the first several pages of this “revised and enlarged” edition. The sequence is as follows: 3, 4, 5, 8, 5, 8, 9, 12, 9, 12, 13, 16, 13, 16, 17, 20, 17, 20. The eight missing pages are 6, 7, 10, 11, 14, 15, 18, and 19. One fascinating aspect of the book is the advertisements in the final pages. It shows some of the methods Yogananda’s fledgling organization used to attract interest in his teachings, such as listing his famous students.
