Sir Francis Younghusband introduced Swami Yogananda before a large audience in London’s Caxton Hall where the guru gave a speech in 1935. The next year Younghusband wrote “An Explorer’s Religion,” an article in the December 1936 issue of The Atlantic Monthly in which he describes his experience of cosmic joy, a passage of which is quoted in Autobiography of a Yogi: “There came upon me what was far more than elation or exhilaration; I was beside myself with an intensity of joy, and with this indescribable and almost unbearable joy came a revelation of the essential goodness of the world. I was convinced past all refutation that men at heart were good, that the evil in them was the superficial.” Francis Younghusband also wrote the foreword to Paul Brunton’s A Search in Secret India.
