The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna by M (Master Mahasaya)
$75.00
The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna, recorded by M, translated by Swami Nikhilananda. Vedanta Society, New York. First edition, second printing, August 1952. Foreword by Aldous Huxley. Good hardcover with very good dustjacket with price intact on flap and slight wear and tanning of spine and fold edges, and a few short tears in the top edge. Very good cover with slight wear and one ding on top edge. Former owner’s name on front end paper. The interior would be very good if it weren’t for sloppy and sometimes heavy underlining on 20 pages from 77-118, and 23 pages in the Introduction from 3-73 with fewer underlines, within the total number of 1,063 pages.
When Paramahansa Yogananda was a teenager, he visited Master Mahasaya (Mahendra Nath Gupta), a disciple of Sri Ramakrishna who recorded his guru’s words in Bengali. It was later translated into English by Swami Nikhilananda and published as The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna. Humble as he was, Master Mahasaya just used “M” as the recorder of Ramakrishna’s words instead of his full name.
