Paramahansa Yogananda devoted an entire chapter in Autobiography of a Yogi to his visit with the stigmatist, Therese Neumann. He stopped to see her in Germany in 1935 before his return trip to India. When she was told about Yoganandaji’s desire to meet her, she said, “Though the bishop has asked me to see no one without his permission, I will receive the man of God from India.” He described the initial meeting with her in these words: “Therese greeted me with a very gentle handshaking. We beamed in silent communion, each knowing the other to be a lover of God.”
